Fire Stats

The following are the fire stats for our local fires as of last night (from the San Diego County Emergency homepage):

Harris Fire
• 86,000 acres
• 35% contained.
• Full containment on October 31st
• Full control on November 4th.
• 2,068 firefighters assigned
• Cost to date $7.2 million
• 16 injuries to firefighters, 21 civilians burned and 5 civilian fatalities.
• 111 homes, 1 commerical property and 86 outbuildings destroyed. 250 homes damaged.
• Crews were moved into the Lawson Valley and Carve Acres area in preparation to protect these communities should the fire cross Lyons Valley Rd.

Witch Fire
• 197,990 acres
• 45% contained
• Full containment on October 31st
• Full control on November 5th
• 2,474 firefighters assigned
• Cost to date $9 million
• 26 injuries to firefighters, 2 civilian fatalities.
• 911 homes, 30 commerical property and 175 outbuildings destroyed. 62 homes, 10 commercial properties, 50 outbuildings damaged.

Rice Fire
• 9,000 acres
• 60% contained
• Full containment on October 28th
• Full control on November 5th
• 967 firefighters assigned
• Cost to date $3,108,143
• 3 injuries to firefighters
• Minimal fire activity, interior burnout, occasional flare-ups

Poomacha Fire
• 42,000 acres
• 35% contained
• Full containment and control on October 29th
• There are 1,794 firefighters assigned
• 14 injuries to firefighters
• 78 homes, 19 outbuildings destroyed
• The fire was active near Pauma Reservation and Palomar Mtn. The fire has entered the Aqua Tibia Wilderness. Control operations within this area are difficult given the steep terrain and inaccessibility. Active structure protection occurring in the Mt. Palomar area. In residential areas where the overall threat has lessened, some displaced residents are being allowed to return.
