Kauai 2006 Vacation

So what is the first thing one needs to do upon arriving on the beautiful island of Kauai? Eat at Hamura’s, of course! So after getting Megan’s carseat all situated in the rental car we made our way over to enjoy some saiman noodles and lilikoi pie. Megan of course is a noodle girl so she loved it.


Ahh – now we are feeling a bit more like all is well in the world. So what’s next? Check out our digs for the remainder of our stay. We loved our accommodations – first floor ocean front room – just open the door and walk 30 feet and enjoy the breath taking view. Here’s Alan and Megan enjoying our first afternoon (this is just steps from our lanai).


Here are some of the things we did this trip. We took Megan to Ke’e Beach but since she’s not yet water safe and doesn’t like sand it wasn’t that much fun for her. On the other hand, Alan got in some great snorkeling time and enjoyed seeing some turtles and a ray of some kind. Alan enjoys going outside the reef and it is always out there that he sees all this cool stuff. On the way back from Ke’e, we stopped off at a couple of the dry caves along the highway so that Alan could try out his flute and see about the acoustics in the caves. If it weren’t for the unplanned audiences, we’d have stayed longer.

We got Megan her first hair cut! We were waiting for the Genki Sushi to open up and a local kids haircut shop was giving cheap haircuts to benefit breast cancer research and so we said why not! Megan did good and the haircut turned out okay – not the best but as good as we can expect considering her squirminess.


We had sushi multiple times, of course! We did try out the new Genki Sushi and it was not bad but it wasn’t quite what we were hoping for either so Kintaro’s remains our favorite sushi restaurant on the island.

One thing we had to do was head over to the Kamalani Playground. As you can see a fun time was had by our little island beauty.


We even frolicked in the water at Lydgate Park.


While Daddy and Megan enjoyed the water, Mama struck up a conversation with a couple of ladies on the island for the afternoon (they were doing one of the island cruises). One gal has a grandbaby that is also adopted from China – it was fun to pass the time chatting with them.

That reminds me, during this vacation we celebrated the anniversary of receiving the call with news of our precious Megan and seeing her face for the first time. So much has changed in our lives since that day so long ago! This little girl has brought such joy to our family – Megan, we love you!!!

We spent a lot of time exploring around the island as it made it easier to still get in a nap for Megan and not lose out on a morning activity. Another thing we did a lot of was hanging around the timeshare and utilizing the kiddie pool and sandbox area. The hammocks were in a perfect location so that we could lounge while Megan played around in the sandbox.


All in all we had a wonderful time introducing our favorite island to Megan. We hope she grows to love it as much as we do. Aloha Kauai - till the next time!
